When I read in Psalms how David prayed for the destruction of his enemies, I wonder if that is how I should pray in this time of grace, knowing that God's will is that none should perish. Today it occurred to me that if a really evil person who has done really evil things becomes a Christian; doesn't that in effect kill or destroy the evil person? He is then a new creation. So I think that I can pray that God destroys all those with evil intent in this world; if it is possible thru salvation.

Hi Terriann,
ReplyDeleteGood questions about David's request to have the Lord destroy his enemies! I've wondered the same thing. Maybe He reveals who/what our real enemies are when we pray that prayer. It's obviously from the heart.
Which OYB are you reading? Is it MacArthur's?
Crabby
Crabby, welcome! I'm reading "The One Year Bible" by Tyndale House in the NIV version. It's the same one we used in the Bible Bus several years ago. I like it because it has an OT passage, a NT passage, a Psalm and a Proverb every day.
ReplyDeleteI know we "wrestle not against flesh and blood." But in a world where some are trying to put bombs in public places, we do have real flesh and blood enemies. I think my point is to pray that God destroys the evil and if possible to save the individual.
Paul says in Romans 12 that we are supposed to "overcome evil with good" and I think that you're right about prayer being the way to accomplish that. I am reading The Cross and The Switchblade again and see it was prayer that initially lead Dave Wilkerson to the street gangs in New York City. It also sustained him while he ministered there. Prayer is the key and as we know, Ephesians is going to say just that when we get to chaper 6.
