When Jesus went and sat at the well He was exactly in the center of the Father's will but from the disciples point view it seemed all a little off. First Jesus wanted to go thru Samaria (we might say this was out of their comfort zone), then He decides to sit down and rest awhile. The disciples hurry off to get some food, maybe that will revive Jesus so they can get moving. When they get back they find Him talking to a woman and not just any woman but a Samaritan with a bad reputation. They totally ignored her and more importantly they ignored what Jesus was doing in talking to her. Meanwhile, Jesus is being energized by seeing faith spring up in this lost woman. Doing exactly what God wants, in His timing, with His power is truly energizing, even when it is phyically taxing. God supplies the energy to do what He calls us to do.
Psalm 105:4 Look to the Lord and His strenth; seek His face always.

I too love that Jesus spoke to the woman at the well. Against some cultural rule, but not against God's rules! May we be brave enough to venture outside of our cultures "rules" if need be... to follow God!
ReplyDeleteIn the OT reading I am so happy to move out of Judges' horrible stories of people "doing whatever seemed right in their own eyes". It was making me so sad! God's enduring love for/patience with us humans is astounding...
I'm very glad to read the story of Ruth again!
I agree about Judges. Today reminded me of quick sand in the old Tarzan movies, the harder they tried to get out of the mess they made the deeper they got. Remember that Ruth is set in the time of Judges. God was working His plan of redemption right in the midst of the mess.
ReplyDeleteAh God's grace, mercy and justice! I am so glad to live in this time of His abounding grace. Ruth is also a picture of His perfect grace and mercy. I love this book and I agree JaNahn, I'm glad we are here now!
